Quick answer...probably not; but let me tell you why I kind of felt that way...yesterday.
I saw LG off to work, then came back to complete the NYT crossword puzzle. Mind you, the Tuesday puzzle is generally one of the easiest for the week. I completed it in just over 7 minutes. I then did a trio of word puzzles (The Jumble, Play 4 and Rootonym in the online Denver Post) in a combined time of just under 1 minute and twenty seconds. Yes, the whole time thing is a little neurotic, but brain play is supposed to keep me mentally sharp. (Keep the snide comments to yourself.) Done sitting for the next 9 or 10 hours, I got up and loaded my little pickup full donation stuff for Goodwill and some recycling to take to the dump in Lacey/Olympia. After delivering and unloading all that stuff I did some Costco shopping and returned home. On the home front, I took advantage of the the mostly dry day to mow the runaway lawn and - a more physically demanding activity - rake and haul the clippings to the chickens, who're laying like crazy now that we're egg-free dieting...figures. As soon as the rake and wheelbarrow were stowed, I went inside to vacuum upstairs and down, then dust all horizontal surfaces and straighten up the place a bit. This is the point where LG came home from a long, hard day of her own and we began our dinner. We finally settled in around 7:30 after eating and cleaning the kitchen.
Two questions come to mind. First, where did all my energy come from, if not from the food I'm eating? Second, why did I think I could do all that stuff after a LOOOOOOONG winter of sloth and not feel a bit stiff this morning? Well, I just have to add that I felt not only energetic all through the day, but happy - actually "giddy" most of the time I was working.
Our nephew/niece in Colorado - Aaron and Laura - had completed the Engine 2 Diet a while back, and it was their success on the E2 that motivated us to try it ourselves. They're still eating a primarily plant-based diet and are sure they've made a permanent shift. One of the things Aaron and Laura (and others who've done the E2 diet) report is an increase in energy and sense of well-being. I, ever the pragmatist - had simply classified these claims under the larger heading of "temporary insanity." I've yet to meet Aaron and Laura (and their very cute sons) in person, so I had no way of knowing for sure that they weren't simply hippy crackpots. I'm leaning toward "not" on that now, finding myself feeling similarly. Thanks guys, seems you were right.
LG (mostly) and I prepared a dinner of a really delicious, spicy Moroccan recipe with green lentils, brown rice, masses of dry-sauteed onions and an exotic spice blend we made ourselves. A few chopped green onions and some toasted pine nuts and it made a really delicious meal. This one took about 45 minutes to prepare, primarily due to the brown rice cooking time, but was worth it. It also made enough for very generous lunches today for both of us, and likely a dinner side dish. OK, enough with the food stuff. If you want to know more specific information about any of our recipes or food preferences, let me know.
I've just seen our first hummingbird of the year. It (can't tell the gender yet...it's very coy), but it's making its desires known with little room for doubt. It periodically buzzes to the spot where last year we hung their feeder. It then comes very close to the window and - if I'm not mistaken - makes a very, very rapid obscene gesture. I guess I'll have to cook up some of that sugar we haven't been consuming and get the feeder out there. One doesn't want a hummingbird with potential mental problems flying into a hypoglycemic frenzy! I wonder if it would like to try some soy milk...God knows WE'RE not going to drink that crap.
Fortunately, it's raining again today. I haven't said that in quite a while. Fortunate in the sense that I can semi-legitimately decline any additional outdoor activity and take the day to recover from yesterday's physical exertions. So, I'm off to make some hummer food and see what joys and delights this day holds (there's that "giddy" thing again!)
Ha Ha Ha! There's that humor again! ;>)
ReplyDeleteReally enjoy the beautiful photography (food photos especially) you are now including. Last nights dinner looks yummy! Might need that recipe for future reference.
Keep up the good work...
